ONE PERSON, BOTH CAMERAS
The stills and the film can come off the same day.
Most companies book a photographer, then book a video company, then find the two crews want the same corner of the same room at the same time. Booking both from me is one visit, one set of dates and one invoice, and your speakers only have to be brave once.
There is a limit and I would rather say it now than after you have booked. While I am filming I am not photographing.
PRACTICAL
Things people ask.
Can we get subtitles?
Yes. I can transcribe the video and add subtitles. Useful for talks, and for anyone watching with the sound off.
Can you photograph the event as well?
Not while I am filming, because I would miss things that matter. An event that needs both done properly gets a second photographer, priced in from the start.
Do you work outside London?
Yes, video especially. Interviews and films travel well, and I go where the work is if the fee covers getting there.
What can we use the film for?
Everything you make and put out yourselves, anywhere in the world, for as long as you like. The line is whether you are paying for the space: a boosted post, a YouTube pre-roll, an advert in a magazine. That is advertising, and it gets quoted separately.
One extra thing with video. Beyond my own licence, a film carries other people’s: the music, any stock footage, and the people on camera. Those are fine for everyday business use. Television, cinema and big national campaigns need clearing first, and that is easier and cheaper to sort before the shoot than after it, so tell me early if a film might go that way.
Who owns the film?
I keep the copyright, the same as with photographs, and you get the right to use it. That is how corporate video normally works, and it makes no practical difference to what you can do: the finished film is yours to use for running your business, anywhere, for as long as you like.
What stays with me is the raw footage, the unedited material the film was cut from. If you need that as well, say so and we will sort it out.
